Annual Workshops
Rising Voices hosts annual workshops to discuss emerging climate-related issues. Workshops present opportunities for rich and honest discussion regarding complex climate change challenges facing Indigenous peoples. Each workshop has a unique theme, and includes working groups at the workshops address critical issues:
- Energy - A just transition away from fossil fuels to cleaner, renewable energy
- Health - Examining the impact climate, weather and water has on the holistic health (physical, mental, social, emotional, spiritual) of individuals and communities
- Phenology - The timing of natural events, in relation to climate and plant/animal lifecycles
- Relocation/site expansion - Issues surrounding community-led relocation, resettlement, or expansion into a new or ancestral site when adapting in place is no longer an option
- Recommendations for a just and equitable response to climate-forced displacement, from The Legal Justice Coalition (LJC) and the Rising Voices Community Relocation & Site Expansion Working Group
- Law and Policy on Adaptation and Relocation Meeting, Sep. 2019
- Addressing the challenges of climate-driven community-led resettlement and site expansion: knowledge sharing, storytelling, healing, and collaborative coalition building
- Water - Water quality and quantity issues
